Clark Gable's Namesake Grandson Pleads Guilty to Pointing Laser Light at LAPD Chopper

Aspiring actor Clark Gable III, named after his grandfather and silver screen legend, has entered a plea of guilty on charges he deliberately pointed a laser beam at a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter last summer.

Gable, 23, was in court today facing a felony charge he trained the laser's beam at the chopper while riding around Hollywood with friends on July 28. As part of the plea bargain, two additional felony charges, discharge of a laser and one count of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, will likely be dismissed at his sentencing on January 12, according to City News Service.

District Attorney Holly Harpham said Gable pointed the 52-milliwat laser light at the chopper, which interfered with the ability of the two LAPD officers inside to see clearly.

Gable's sentence is anticipated to include 10 days in jail and 200 hours of Caltran service, notes Harpham. At his time of arrest, Gable told the media he had been given the laser light as a gift, and that he was going to learn from his mistake of pointing it at the helicopter.
