WeHo City Council Hears Recommendations for Creating Bike Lanes
At last night's WeHo City Council Meeting, a task force presented recommendations for adding bike lanes to the city's streets, reports West Hollywood Patch.
The group made suggestions that would significantly change the layout and traffic flow of the area: they recommended adding bike lanes to San Vicente Boulevard, exchanging parking spaces for bike lanes on Santa Monica Boulevard, and reducing lanes for cars on Fountain Ave. from four to three, in order to add lanes for bikes.
It's not clear how far these recommendations will go. The last one -- adding lanes to Fountain -- was nixed on the spot by Councilmember John Heilman, who said that it would make the already horrible traffic in that area even worse. And WeHo Mayor John Duran -- an avid biker himself -- asked the group to go back out and get input from people in the city who don't bike.
But the task force remains optimistic.
“We’ve still got to go through the various commissions before we’ll see any bike lanes added,” task force member Kevin Burton told Patch. “It’s still a long way to go, but this was the first step.”
