Occupy LA Heads East to Occupy DC
Occupy L.A. activists recently escaped the City of Angels to head east to the hometown of President Barack Obama.
KABC reports that 22 local occupiers boarded a red-eye flight from LAX to Washington, D.C. to occupy the nation's capital. Occupiers are joining forces with around 3,000 unemployed workers in a weeklong protest dubbed "Take Back the Capitol" at the National Mall.
Hoping to piggyback on the Occupy movement, Take Back the Capitol organizers, along with other social activist groups, are lobbying Congress on behalf of the middle class to take back the capitol from corporate control. Generally, "the aim is to highlight Congress's misguided obsession with the deficit and overall inaction on unemployment," according to The Washington Post.
Thousands of activists from across the nation are peacefully descending upon Capitol Hill from December 5 through December 9 to "Occupy Congress." A series of tents, referred to as a "People's Camp," adorn the lawn outside the Capitol. The Washington Post said that each tent would represent a state, and the number of unemployed residents in each state would be displayed prominently on the tents.
