See A Little Light: A Celebration of the Music and Legacy of Bob Mould @ Walt Disney Concert Hall, 11/21/11
Bob Mould may not be a household name but the artists he influenced and inspired during his time fronting bands Husker Du and Sugar as well as a later solo career are quite well known. “See A Little Light: A Celebration of the Music and Legacy of Bob Mould” at the Walt Disney Concert Hall was a chance for a few of those artists to show their thanks and perform the songs that inspired them as artists.
The bill was a stacked affair featuring performances from Britt Daniel of Spoon, Margaret Cho, Craig Finn from the Hold Steady and LA’s own No Age but the evening hit its apex after the intermission. First, Ryan Adams gave two sublime and incredible acoustic performances of “Heartbreak A Stranger” and “Black Sheets of Rain” and in what was most definitely the highlight of the evening, Foo Fighter’s frontman Dave Grohl hit the stage with Mould and his band for a blistering six song set that featured the former Nirvana drummer getting behind the kit on the last song, “New Day Rising”.
After a finale performance with most of the evening’s artists, Mould stood alone on the Disney Concert Hall stage looking genuinely humbled and thankful, not only to the crowd in attendance but to the artists who played his songs that night
