Pencil This In: Jack Nicholson Double Feature, Host Henry Rollins & Andy Warhol's Muse
Today's the last day of November, so make the month count before toppling into December. If you're a Jack Nicholson fan, head to the Million Dollar Theater for a double feature starring the wide-grinned man himself. A star-studded benefit concert is taking the Avalon Theater stage. Andy Warhol's muse comes to life at REDCAT. NerdMelt promises guffaws, and artwork by animators adorns Synchronicity Space.
FILM
UCLA Film & Television Archive and the Million Dollar Theater present a "Nicholson/Rafelson Double Feature" tonight with 1971's "Five Easy Pieces" and 1972's "The King of Marvin Gardens." Both films are directed by Bob Rafelson and star Jack Nicholson. 7:30pm. $10 general admission; $9 students and seniors. The UCLA student free ticket policy does not apply, and tickets are available only at the theater box office, which opens one hour before the program start time on the day of the show.
MUSIC*
A benefit concert for Drop in the Bucket, a Uganda-based non-profit that builds water wells and sanitation systems at large rural schools in sub-Saharan Africa, features a slew of celebrated musicians. Slipknot/Stone Sour’s frontman Corey Taylor, Dave Navarro, Kraddy featuring Dave Lombardo of Slayer, Anthrax’s Scott Ian, John 5, members of Rob Zombie’s band and host Henry Rollins will perform tonight at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood. Shepard Fairey is attending as a guest DJ, and Kate Flannery of “The Office” will perform a musical comedy bit. 8pm. $25.
ART
"Animation Breakdown at Synchronicity: Artwork from Animators" opens tonight at Synchronicity Space. Featuring paintings, drawings and sculptures by established and emerging artists who are also successful animators, the exhibition is a collaboration between Cinefamily and Synchronicity Space. Tonight marks the opening reception, and the exhibition displays through December 23. 7pm-10pm. Free.
COMEDY
Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani host "The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail," a weekly standup show every Wednesday night at NerdMelt (Nerdist Theater at Meltdown), presenting some of the hottest funny men and women in town. Tonight's lineup includes Jackie Kashian, Paul Cibis, David Sussman, Dave Anthony and Neal Brennan. 8:30pm. $8.
THEATER
David J brings the life of Andy Warhol muse Edie Sedgwick to the REDCAT stage tonight in a one-woman show and avant-garde rock concert. "Silver for Gold (The Odyssey of Edie Sedgwick)" opens tonight and runs through December 4. 8:30pm. $20-$25 General Admission, $16-$20 Students, $10-$12 CalArts Students/Faculty.
