UCLA Head Football Coach Fired
UCLA announced today that they have fired their head football coach, Rick Neuheisel -- or, in PR parlance, Neuheisel has been "relieved of his duties."
The firing comes on the heels of UCLA's brutal 50-0 loss to USC over the weekend.
According to ESPN, after loudly proclaiming in a newspaper ad several years ago that he would "take back the city," Neuheisel's Bruins went on to lose at least six games every season. As of today, the team has a 21-28 record during Neuheisel's four-season tenure.
The LA Times reports that during a press conference today, Neuheisel announced that he did not know what his next step would be, nor did he let on what reason he was given for his firing. "I don't need a reason," he said.
Referencing Saturday's game, Neuheisel had this to say: "Certainly when you're the UCLA coach you have to play better against USC. When you lose in that fashion, it's a tough pill to swallow."
Neuheisel will coach the team through this Friday's Pac-12 Conference against the Oregon Ducks, and will then step down.
