Two brothers, ages 20 and 21, were jogging on a trail near Valley Center Middle School in San Diego County on Sunday night when four pit bulls attacked them. The dogs chased and mauled the victims, who remain hospitalized.

The owner of the dogs voluntarily surrendered the 7-month-old pit bulls for destruction, officials told L.A. Now. All four animals were euthanized by the San Diego County Department of Animal Services.

John Garritson, 20, and Richard Garritson, 21, were running with their 18-year-old sister and 9-year-old niece around 5:30pm when the dogs emerged and attacked them, reports North County Times. Luckily, both females managed to escape the attack unharmed.

Richard was seriously wounded, and John was also injured. Both men remain at Sharp Memorial Hospital.

Investigators are probing the incident to determine whether or not the dogs' owner should be charged in the attack.
