Classical Pick of the Week: Beethoven and Hillborg
The Da Camera Society is putting on a festival of Strads! To celebrate the 300th anniversary, the Da Camera Society is bringing Martin Chalifour (concertmaster of the LA Phil) to Cicada Restaurant in Downtown. Chalifour will perform on the Kreisler (1711), Milstein (1716) and Leonora Jackson (1714), all Strads built during the "golden period" of Stradivarius.
Program includes Beethoven, Fauré, and Janáček. Concert is Monday the 21st at 8 PM, and you can get tickets here. The upstairs bar is available for drinks and dinner before the concert.
This weekend marks a return of quite a few LA Phil favorites. Emanuel Ax will perform Beethoven Piano Cto. no. 2 and Grammy award-winning vocalists Hila Plitmann and Anne Sofie von Otter will premiere Anders Hillborg's new work, Sirens (von Otter was present at another Hillborg premiere, though she performed Strauss at that concert). These two artists are collaborating with a familiar face, Esa-Pekka Salonen.
If you want to learn more about "Sirens" or Hillborg, the LA Phil has put up a video on youtube with Salonen. There are performances this Friday and Saturday at 8 PM, and Sunday at 2 PM.
