LAPD to Host LGBTQ Community Forum Tonight
The LAPD is hosting a forum tonight for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) community at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. LAPD Chief Charlie Beck, along with several other police officials and LGBTQ community and business leaders will be in attendance, giving the public the opportunity to engage in dialogue about the LGBTQ community within the City of Los Angeles.
Beck is expected to address the LAPD's continued efforts to strengthen partnerships within the LGBTQ community "in the spirit of respect and dignity," as noted in a release.
The forum follows several local attacks on gays, most notably in West Hollywood. Three attacks took place within four days of each other in mid/late October. On November 7, the manager of a popular gay bar was attacked and called a "fucking fag." In Long Beach, two men were arrested for brutally attacking two gay men on Halloween.
Tonight's event is scheduled from 6pm to 8pm.
