Two Teens & Father Wounded in Possible Gang Shooting

Suspected gang violence has shaken the Westside community recently, with one possible gang-related shooting in Venice on Thursday and another in Mar Vista on Saturday.

Around 9pm on Saturday night, a father, his 15-year-old son and his son's 13-year-old girlfriend were shot and wounded outside a Mar Vista liquor store near Culver Boulevard and Slauson Avenue. While seated in a vehicle, the victims were attacked by four or five men. Two of the alleged gang members opened fire on the trio.

Officials say about ten shots were fired. Shot in the upper back, the father suffered a collapsed lung. His son was hit in the shoulder, and a bullet grazed the head of the girl, reports Venice Patch. The mother had reportedly entered the store to make a purchase when the shooting occurred, according to L.A. Now.

Police believe the shooting may have been gang-related and tied to Thursday's attack at Oakwood Park in Venice, which wounded a 45-year-old man. Saturday's incident may have been a case of mistaken identity.

As of Sunday morning, both teens had been treated at a local hospital and released. The father remained hospitalized in stable condition.

The shooting was captured on surveillance video, but no suspects have been arrested.
