Glendale residents were surprised by a rather large visitor Wednesday night, one who roamed their streets and yards. The visitor was a black bear that sources are calling "enormous."

The Glendale Police Department received a call about the visitor around 11pm and responded to the sighting at Glen Cove Avenue and Santa Carlotta Street. Officials watched as the bear scaled a concrete wall and estimate the bear's weight to be a whopping 500 pounds.

The bear was tracked as it wandered south across Foothill Boulevard, east into unincorporated La Crescenta then northwest toward the hills at about 12:25am, reports LA Daily News. A camera crew later spotted the beast in the Tujunga area around 1am. His trek crossed three jurisdictions - Glendale, unincorporated L.A. County and the city of L.A.

CBS LA reported that animal control officials asked the officers to shoot only rubber bullets near - not at - the bear to scare him home.

Last night's siting marks the second this month in the area. Residents are advised to be cautious, secure their trash cans and never leave pets and children outdoors unattended.
