South L.A. Middle School Locked Down After Attempted Sexual Assault

George Washington Carver Middle School in South L.A. was put on lockdown this morning after a student saw someone near campus who matched the description of a man suspected of trying to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl last week.

The lockdown started at 7:15 a.m. and lasted about an hour, reports the Huffington Post.

The suspect was first seen on Friday afternoon when he grabbed the girl -- a student at Carver -- from behind as she waited for a classmate outside a bathroom on campus. He began to drag her away, making a sexual comment as he did so.

But the attack was thwarted by three other students, one who came out of the bathroom shortly after the girl was grabbed, and two other male students who joined in the scuffle. After hearing the girl scream, they intervened and insisted that the attacker let her go.
