Did Occupy San Diego Throw Urine And Blood On Street Carts?

The Occupy protests, as we all know by now, claim to represent the 99% of Americans who aren't the wealthiest in the nation. Among that 99%, it's probably safe to count street vendors, who sometimes hawk their wares in the wee hours of the morning, at times among rowdy crowds, and likely don't bring home thousands of dollars from doing so.

That being said, it's a little tough to imagine that Occupiers would turn on such purveyors of streetside delights, but according to CBS News, that's exactly what happened in San Diego.

The article reports that two carts, one selling coffee and one selling hot dogs, parked themselves in the middle of the Civic Center Plaza in early October to provide free food to protesters. When they then stopped giving the goods away, cart owners Linda Jenson and Letty and Pete Soto say that Occupiers turned on them. Their movable shops have allegedly been robbed and vandalized with graffiti, and protesters have thrown blood and urine on their carts.

The reports were verified by San Diego Councilman Carl DeMaio, but apparently no arrests have been made, nor have any protesters been fingered in the alleged vandalism.

A fundraiser is being held in the Gas Lamp District to help the vendors clean up their carts, or replace them if need be.

  • I went down there and 90-95% of the people down there are HOMELESS People!!! It's a pretty dirty and nasty set up! I hope the police chase them off and close it all down soon..again it's pretty nasty down there where they all are and very, very dirty! I'm sure they are peeing and doing other things all over the area if not near by as well!

This is what happened. At a San Diego Council meeting a woman who operates a cart spoke up against the occupation and held up 2 pictures briefly showing a stained cart. They were probably from a report she made about the homeless a couple of years before. Recent pictures and videos of her cart show no such staining and the police have been ever present since day one of the occupation. She did not file another police report. The San Diego City Council and the people of San Diego are assisting her and another cart so they should not be fearful.

  • some thoughts:
    - we don't know how accurate this article is because of missing sources so there really is no reason speculating what might have happened and who is responsible for it- since there are a lot of unpleasant things happening in this world, everyone has every right to be upset. Lets keep in mind that we all have different ways of approaching our goals and as long as we treat each other respectful, stop the gossip and start the action we should all get there savely.

    thanks.

  • Sorry but these people don't even know what they're protesting, and it's downright disgusting and indecent for these protesters to destroy property  of honest hard-working people who are trying to WORK and make a living for their families.  I don't mind protesting or fighting for a cause, but when it comes to destruction of property and defecating publicly, that is where I draw the line.  These people are acting like savages, and probably are funded by their wealthy parents!

Where were you during the BP oil spill? I would wager that one second of the oil spill was more damaging to the planet that everything anyone accuses the protesters of doing (e.g., dirty hippies crapping in the streets versus dispersant killing swimmers). I'm sick of fake outrage over like a few shaky accusations and the sanctity of park curfews while there are real issues.

You're a real piece of work.  How dare you attack someone for their criticism of bad behavior?  The occupiers claim to represent the 99% that aren't the wealthy in this country, but their behavior is disgusting!  They attack police, riot and cause damage to public and private property, get busted for dealing and using drugs, rape and rob each other, desecrate our flag, defecate and urinate in public, including on police cars, hurl anti-semitic taunts, try to shut down private businesses,  ignore curfew and permit laws, and are costing taxpayers millions of dollars across the country.  They're doing all of this TO GET ATTENTION, yet you have the nerve to attack someone who sees this behavior and speaks against it?

The occupiers do NOT represent 99% of this country.  We don't behave that way, and we don't appreciate people acting that way in our name.

  • Rocktageous

I'm not going to bother with most of your regurgitation. How many versions of this rant do you post each day?

If you can prove the attacks in San Diego actually took place and that it was Occupiers not infiltrators, I will happily condem away. For now, this is fake outrage at a time when there's so much to really be outraged about.

  • no on threw blood or urine.   wheres the source??  this is not journalism.

  • AnOuthouse

Agreed. There's lots of accusations of crazy behaviour that doesn't pass any type of smell test. Lets pass on crazy made up stuff as news because some 'anonymous' person said it.

When they started out giving free food they created an expectation. Their hearts were in the right place but this was a mistake. That doesn't justify whatever happened.

  • When the governament started giving away food, housing, welfare, healthcare, etc, they created an expectation.  Their hearts were in the right place, but when the money ran out, the mistake was clear.

  • gerry1230

But there will always be money for war.

  • beverlee

It's called Defense. Or don't they teach that in school anymore?

Bring the troops home from overseas and put them on the borders...land, sea and air.

    Happy Birthday US Marines!

    God Bless our Vets!

  • so does that mean that we're supposed to think that the Occupy San Diego protesters are vampires? Why would you mirror the same suggestion as this story? I wasn't there, but you are forgetting that people get upset when they get lumped into groups or are you expecting your readers to forget that?

and it seems as that it was Los Angeles CBS that posted that as your link shows.
