A 6-year-old boy escaped from the clutches of a man who kidnapped him out of his backyard yesterday by biting his hand, according to sheriff's deputies.

The man put his hand over the boy's mouth to keep him from screaming, but the boy bit him and ran back home. The boy was doing chores around 4pm in his backyard just outside of Monrovia, when a man picked him up and ran.

The boy's father Dominic Barrera described the scene for CBS 2: "Someone came into our yard. And picked up our son…like a football. And then ran down the block and took him. My kid was kicking and biting and screaming. He dropped my son. And then [my son] ran back here."

Apparently, the boy was doing exactly what his parents wanted him to do. His mom Ashley Barrera taught him to fight back if anyone ever tried to take him: "You fight for your life. I told him 'You bite. You kick. You scream. You yell. You draw blood' I said, 'because someone takes you, they’re not doing anything nice. They’re gonna hurt you.'"

Sheriff's deputies released a sketch of the suspect today. They don't believe that there have been other kidnappings connected to the boy's, but the suspect is still on the loose.
