Trailer for Grand Theft Auto V Is Very Familiar and Very Noir

The video game Grand Theft Auto has already spent some time in the Southland with "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," but the latest edition of the video game takes place in Los Santos, a dead ringer for the City of Angels. The City of Saints is full of smoggy sunsets, slanted palm tree shadows and lots references to the dark underbelly of the California dream.

The trailer (if not the video game itself) has lots of references to real places around the city and is very noir. It starts in typical flashback mode: "Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather."

The iconic Hollywood sign is called "Vinewood":

The freeway of choice is the 5, which leads to downtown and Little Seoul (instead of Little Tokyo):

There are the haves. Here's a couple doing yoga on their beachfront property:

Here's a suit overlooking a smoggy skyline:

There's a reference to our petroleum wealth:

And our orange grove past:

And of course, workers sprayed by pesticides aren't the only have-nots. Here's a homeless encampment under an overpass:

Some Los Santos graffiti:

But my favorite is probably the blink-and-you-miss-it truck with a logo that looks like In-N-Out's:
