Pencil This In: Dia De Los Muertos, The Negro Problem & The Moth
Let the gusty winds blow you to one of many events tonight, Angelenos. Check out some artsy conversation at the Getty Center or the new exhibit featuring Picasso at the Getty Villa. More conversation will be had at the Hammer Museum, detailing the process and lives behind the music of The Negro Problem. Celebrate Dia de Los Muertos in downtown L.A., or sit back, relax and listen to tales of addiction at The Moth in Santa Monica. gLAnce Wine Bar is still offering free wine tastings, and tonight's sips come all the way from Down Under.
ART
Feast your eyes on European modernism at the Getty Villa's new exhibition Modern Antiquity: Picasso, de Chirico, Léger, and Picabia in the Presence of the Antique. Opening tonight, the exhibition showcases juxtapositions of ancient and modern art plus how said artists reinvented and transformed antiquity. The exhibition displays through January 6, 2012. Free. An advance, timed-entry ticket is required. Museum hours are 10am-5pm Monday through Sunday. The museum is closed on Tuesday.
ART CONVERSATION
Artist De Wain Valentine will discuss the challenges of making, conserving and displaying his monumental polyester resin sculptures with conservation scientist Tom Leaner at the Getty Center. The galleries are open from 5:30pm-7pm, a documentary screening is slated for 6pm and the conversation begins at 7pm. The event is part of Pacific Standard Time. Free. Reservations required.

The 24th Street Theatre in downtown L.A. hosts Festival de Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead Festival) tonight via art, music, dance, theatre and more. STORYTELLING
The Moth LA returns this evening with an addiction-themed StorySLAM. Brave storytellers will memorize their five-minute, true tales and take the stage - if chosen - at Zanzibar in Santa Monica. The Let's Be Frank food truck will be serving up 100% grass-fed beef franks for any and all hot dog lovers in the crowd. Doors open at 7pm. Stories begin at 7:30pm. Pre-sale tickets are sold out, but tickets are still available for $8 at the door.
