Gusty Winds Cause Brush Fires & Leave 12K SoCalians Without Power

Enjoying the hot, dry wind against your face today? Many SoCalians are not. Several brush fires have been reported, and 12,000 Edison customers are without power. High wind advisories were in effect until 3pm today.

Among numerous brush fires, one broke out in the hills above Brea, and another roared along the San Diego County-Mexico border. In Riverside County, a two-acre field caught fire and damaged three homes. Another blaze began in Jurupa Valley just after 9am off Van Buren Boulevard at Bellegrave Avenue in Glen Avon, majorly damaging one house and moderately damaging two others. About 60 firefighters battled the fire.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation as a result of the Glen Avon fire.

Strong winds can potentially knock down power lines, and thousands of residents in Calabasas, Lancaster and Brea were without power today, most likely due to downed lines.

A red flag warning remains in effect until 6pm today for L.A. and Ventura counties. Another red flag warning remains in effect in the City of L.A. until 8am Thursday morning or until further notice.
