Trick Or Treat Or Jail: 39 Arrested in Hollywood Halloween Mischief
The LAPD had their hands full with drunk and disorderly Halloweeners last night. On Hollywood Boulevard alone, 39 celebrators were arrested.
Most of the arrests stemmed from brawling and being intoxicated in public. Sixteen officers on horses patrolled the boulevard on Halloween night to maintain order. One man was arrested for assault after refusing to get out of the street and hurling a bottle of vodka at a dismounting officer.
West Hollywood was reportedly much quieter than its eastern sister. Perhaps that was thanks in part to the 250 on-scene officers. Festive Angelenos celebrated on Santa Monica Boulevard, which was shut down for the annual Halloween street festival. Sgt. Jim Farrell told L.A. Now that L.A. County sheriff's deputies made just two arrests this year. Last year eight people were arrested.
"It seemed like there was more people this year, which was surprising for us," Farrell said. "It all seemed very well-behaved. People were out there to have a good time and it was just that." Well done, WeHo.
Partygoer Nate Hanager experienced a different side of the WeHo action. "There were a lot of intoxicated people," he told CBS2’s Kara Finnstrom. "It was hard to take even one full step in one direction."
Cleaning crews hit the WeHo streets early Tuesday morning to tidy up after the 250,000 revelers before the morning commute.
