What's Villaraigosa Doing in DC? Hatin' On It, Apparently

Tsk, tsk. Los Angeles' foremost ambassador should know better than to smack talk our nation's capital. And yet, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has managed to go on record with his disdain for DC. DCist doesn't mind calling him out on it one bit, but, hey--no apologies necessary from our sister site...Angelenos love to call him out, too.

First, what did our ever-grinning leader say? The City Mavenreports on Villaraigosa's off-the-cuffing during a morning presser today:

[T]he mayor took a moment to make it clear he doesn’t travel to Washington, D.C. to visit the monuments and museums.

“I am in Washington, D.C. more times than I would care to be, trust me. I love when (the media) talk about how often I’m there as if going to Washington is — you know, when you’re looking at the places you want to visit around the world — as if that’s a place I wanted to visit.”

And DCist:

Huh. Those are some mighty tough words from the leader of a city which most artifacts of popular culture depict as either a futuristic dystopia, a squalid hellhole, a corral point for the country's most vicious convicts, or the first place extraterrestrials will destroy once they decide to occupy our planet.

Any thoughts from residents of America's beloved squalid hellhole?

  • D.C. is a parasite. They have the lowest unemployment rate in the nation and have barely been touched by the country's current economic problems because they all make their living off our tax dollars or contractors that get paid by the government. I don't expect much from them other than a thank you for paying my taxes then a nice stfu.
