'Generation Mobile' Infographic Says 60% of Students Are Tech Addicts

We love our smart phones. This is a no-brainer. HackCollege zeroed in on students and released an infographic detailing just how smitten they are by their mobile devices.

The "Generation Mobile" infographic pairs stylish design with intriguing facts and reveals just how often students are texting, calling, cuddling with and paying for their phones. When asked how often they "whip out" their cellphones during class - connecting in lieu of learning - students admitted to the following percentages: every class period - 25, a few classes per day - 23, a few times per week - 18, a a few times per semester - 20 and never - 14. So, not so bad, students! We're quite impressed with your educational focus.

We were not shocked (at all) to learn that 94% of students text everyday. We were more so surprised that the total failed to reach 100%. When probed about their tech addition, 60% of students said they sometimes feel addicted to their cell phones. We feel you. But are students actually paying for their fancy mobile phones? Of the students queried, 75% reported that their parents still pay their monthly phone bills. We wish.

  • Good info! But I believe the Generation Mobile was born out of availability and affordability of tech gadgets that we currently have.

  • Interesting collection of stats. I wonder how many prof's are texting / facebook'ing / tweeting to their students? Also interesting that there's no mention of email...
