Why 405, Why?! Freeway Closures Conveniently Starting Tonight

Demolition of the northern half of the Sunset Bridge will cause road closures on the 405 Freeway and surrounding streets beginning October 31 and lasting for twelve consecutive nights. Couldn't construction have waited until AFTER Halloween? Demolition of columns and bents will occur on Wednesday, November 9 through Friday, November 11.

Metro says work will take place between 9pm and 6am with bridge demolition slated for 11pm to 5am. Ramp closures will begin as early as 7pm, and freeway closures will become effective as early as 10pm. Street closures will be in effect from 9am to 6pm.

Oct. 31-Nov. 2
Northbound 405 Freeway between Montana Avenue and Moraga Drive ramps:
*Traffic traveling north on the 405 Freeway will be detoured to the Montana Avenue off-ramp, to northbound Sepulveda Boulevard and then back onto the freeway via the Moraga Drive on-ramp.

Nov. 3-5
Southbound 405 Freeway between the southbound Church Lane on-ramp and the southbound Sunset Boulevard on-ramp:
*Traffic traveling south on the 405 Freeway will be detoured to the Sunset Boulevard off-ramp, to northbound Church Lane, to southbound Sepulveda Boulevard, to westbound Wilshire Boulevard, to the southbound 405 Freeway on-ramp.
*Oversized vehicles traveling south on the 405 Freeway will be detoured at Getty Center Drive, to southbound Sepulveda Boulevard, to westbound Wilshire Boulevard to the 405 Freeway on-ramp.

Nov. 6-8
Sepulveda Boulevard between Montana Avenue and Sepulveda Way:
*Traffic traveling north on Sepulveda Boulevard will be detoured to eastbound Montana Avenue, to northbound Veteran Avenue to westbound Sunset Boulevard to Sepulveda Way and then back to Sepulveda.
*Traffic traveling south on Sepulveda Boulevard will be detoured to eastbound Sepulveda Way, to Sunset Boulevard, to southbound Veteran Avenue to westbound Montana Avenue and back to Sepulveda.

Oct. 31-Nov.8
Sunset Boulevard between Gunston Drive and Thurston Avenue:
*Traffic traveling west on Sunset Boulevard will be detoured to Sepulveda Way, to northbound Sepulveda Boulevard, to southbound Church Lane and back to Sunset.
*Traffic traveling east on Sunset Boulevard will be detoured to northbound Church Lane, to southbound Sepulveda Boulevard, to eastbound Sepulveda Way and back to Sunset.

Two lanes will be available in each direction on Sunset Boulevard, and access will be provided for emergency responders. Bridge reconstruction is expected to last for twelve months following the demolition.
