Tony Hawk Shreds Venice Beach in Sonic Generations of Skate
Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, along with three generations of skateboard pros and regular skaters, graced Venice Beach on Saturday, October 22, to show SoCal how it's done in Sonic Generations of Skate.
Saturday's competition celebrated three generations of vert skating on a halfpipe near the Venice Boardwalk. Each team culled from first, second and third generations of skateboarders, assigning one skater from each generation to a team. Pros battled other skaters from their generations in a series of four different competitions - runs, high air, best trick and team doubles.
Though 43-year-old Hawk is retired, he continues to dabble in special skate events and was part of the first generation team on Saturday. Other "oldheads" included Steve Caballero, Sergei Ventura and Kevin Staab. Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Andy Macdonald, Sandro Dias and Lincoln Ueda were part of the second 30-something generation batch. And as for the third generation group of 20-somethings/teens, Mitchie Brusco, Adam Taylor, Elliot Sloan and Paul-Luc Ronchetti shredded the ramp.
Who won the multi-generation competition? Hawk's team did, of course.
Today's video lunch serves up the highlights from the rad event, set to some sweet reggae jams.
