Clean Out Those Cabinets, Saturday Is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
It's time for a little fall cleaning, SoCal. If your medicine cabinets are bursting open with a potpourri of pills, National Prescription Drug Take Back Day could be your space-saving savior.
This Saturday, October 29, SoCal residents can de-clutter their shelves and take their old prescription meds to local city halls or police departments from 10am to 2pm for proper disposal.
Why host such an event? Ready for some scary statistics? Officials with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) say that more than 7 million Americans abuse prescription drugs, many of which come from unused prescriptions from family and friends. The Partnership for a Drug Free America estimates that 2,500 teens use prescrptions drugs on a daily basis in America.
The DEA's first take back day in April 2011 yielded the collection and disposal of over 309 tons of pills nationwide.
