Occupy L.A. will screen a film to inspire the 99%, and the Million Dollar Theater offers two "fright night" flicks. Tonight marks the final two performances of the "Bayside High School Musical" at the Victory Theatre. Or if what you really need is a drink, gLAnce Wine Bar is serving up a free wine tasting this evening. Get out there, and please report back!
ART
"Modern Art in Los Angeles: Women Curators in Los Angeles" is a conversation not to be missed. Three pioneering curators - Barbara Haskell, Jane Livingston and Helene Winer - of the Southern California art scene will discuss their roles in defining West Coast art in the 1960s and 1970s. The event is part of Pacific Standard Time at The Getty Center. 7pm. Free. Reservation required.
COMEDY
Authentic Mexican masked wrestling, stripteases and comedy collide at Lucha VaVOOM's Halloween extravaganza. A "ring of terror" and "sexo y violencia" entertain tonight and tomorrow night at The Mayan. Doors open at 7pm. Fun begins at 8pm. Tickets via TicketWeb are sold out but may still be available at Wacko in Hollywood, Brat in Santa Monica and Garage Pizza Downtown. $35-$65.
DOCUMENTARY FILM*
Join the occupiers at Occupy L.A. for a special screening of "Ghetto Physics." The independent documentary by E. Raymond Brown and Williams Arntz explores the dynamics of the "powers that be" along with inflation, foreclosure, unemployment, healthcare, pollution, crime, recession and depression. Brown will attend tonight's screening. 9:30pm. Free.
FRIGHT FILM
UCLA Film & Television Archive and the Million Dollar Theater present a "Funny Fright Night" double feature of 1974's "Young Frankenstein," directed by Mel Brooks, and 1979's "Love at First Bite," directed by Stan Dragoti. 7:30pm. $10 general admission; $9 students and seniors. The UCLA student free ticket policy does not apply, and tickets are available only at the theater box office, which opens one hour before the program start time on the day of the show.
THEATRE
Zack, Kelly, Screech, Lisa, Jessie, A.C. and Mr. Belding - the gang’s all here! "Bayside High School Musical" flashes back to the 80s and 90s with a musical parody of the beloved sitcom “Saved by the Bell.” The musical opened on August 10 and has entertained double-feature-style every Wednesday at The Victory Theatre Center. Tonight marks the show's finale. Tickets for 8pm show cost $15 each; tickets for 10pm show cost $10 each and include two beers when booked online.
