Hollywood Bowl Ticket Prices Are Going Up Next Season

When you budget for next summer's wine-enhanced picnic-and-concert experiences under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl, factor in a few extra bucks per ticket. Today the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors gave the okay to a price hike for the 2012 season.

Those upped prices "will range from $1 to $6 per ticket, with most of the increases at the lower end of that range," says The Daily News. "The bigger increases typically apply to box seats that already sell for in excess of $100. Even after the increase, more than 40 percent of tickets will sell for $28 or less."

Why the price hike? It's not getting any cheaper to produce and market shows, says the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. They operate the Bowl and lease the venue from the County. The Bowl is expected to bring in an extra $22,000 next year due to the increase. They also asked for a price hike last year to cover the cost of improvements at the historic ampitheatre.

Oh, and in case you were worried: Parking prices will not go up.

"The Bowl is expected to bring in an extra $22,000 next year due to the increase" - that doesn't make any sense. If the seats go up by $1 each, and seating capacity is "nearly 18,000" according to their website - it seems that they'd be expected to make an extra ~$20k PER SHOW. To be clear, I'm not complaining about the price increase, unfortunately the costs of producing those shows is real, and also climbing. Just pointing out the amount of money that is needed...
