Graverobber: Man Arrested on Suspicion of Swiping Stuff Stored With Deceased Owners in Mausoleum

A 21-year-old Redondo Beach man was arrested last week on suspicion of swiping several personal items left with the remains of people interred in a mausoleum at a Ranho Palos Verdes cemetery.

The suspect, James R. Haggstron, was spotted trying to open a glass cabinet (niche) that holds the deceased's personal items inside the Pacifica North Court Mausoleum at Green Hills Memorial Park. The witness notified authorities, who located Haggstrom crouching by one such cabinet, and took him into custody, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The LASD say Haggstrom was in possession of property believed to belong to deceased individuals within the mausoleum, as well as burglary tools. More similar property thought to have been swiped by the suspect from the cemetery was found when a search warrant was executed at Haggstrom's residence. Haggstrom, incidentally, is currently on probation for burglary.

He faces felony charges for the Green Hills burglaries.
