Arrest Made in Summer 2010 Slaying of Moreno Valley Teen Norma Lopez
An arrest has been made in the 15-month-old murder case of Moreno Valley teenager Norma Lopez, who was abducted and killed on her way home from summer school classes in the summer of 2010.
The family of the slain teen revealed news of the arrest via the "Find Norma Lopez" page set up by her brother, who posted last night:
I waited 1 yr and 3 months and my answer that I've been awaiting for was finally answered I promised this crime wasn't gunna go unanswered and the fbi didn't fail us....he's been found and he's in jail were going on trial...more info will be on the news tomorrow as there will be a press conference announcing my sisters killer has been found....
The Lopez family was informed of the arrest at about 7 p.m. Thursday when authorities visited their home. Lopez's father, Martin "said police told the family that the suspect arrested was Jesse Perez Torres, 35," reports L.A. Now.
Torres was arrested in Long Beach on suspicion of murder and kidnapping, and his being held in Riverside on $1 million bail. Martin Lopez said no one in the family knows the suspect.
Norma Lopez was abducted while she was walking home after classes. She was listed as missing for several days, until remains found 2.5 miles from where she was last scene were found and identified as the 17-year-old.
A press conference about the arrest is scheduled for today.
