CHP Officer Fatally Shoots Allegedly Armed Man on 91 Freeway

California_91_fwy_sign.jpg A fatal officer-involved shooting left several lanes of the 91 Freeway in Corona closed overnight, backing up traffic and necessitating an extensive investigation.

The shooting took place just after 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, when California Highway Patrol officers arrived at the eastbound 91 Freeway between Main Street and the 15 Freeway in response to a call of a single-vehicle crash, reports KTLA. There they found a man at the side of the road, allegedly with a gun.

The suspect was ordered to drop his weapon, but he did not, and instead opened fire on the officers. The CHP officers returned fire, and the suspect was killed.

"All four eastbound lanes were shut down for about 10 hours, causing major traffic delays. At least two westbound lanes were also closed during the investigation." As of 6:14 a.m. Wednesday all lanes were reopened.

Corona authorities and the CHP are investigating the fatal shooting. The deceased's identity has not been released.
