Caught Up In Spiderwebs: Natural History Museum Hosts Spider Pavilion

Arachnophobes beware: Spiders have invaded the Natural History Museum's South Lawn for Spider Pavilion. Free to spin their webs for all to see, arachnids of all kinds - from common orb weavers to jewel garden spiders - will safely be on display for the rest of October. Special events around these often misunderstood creatures are also planned.

• On October 21 and 28 from 5pm to 8:30pm, the Spider Pavilion will stay open late for guided flashlight tours to see what exactly spiders do when the sun goes down. Free with Pavilion admission, complimentary flashlight and commemorative pin included.


• From October 24 to October 31 throughout the entire day, the Museum will host the Haunted Museum Spooky Scavenger Hunt, with mysteries in the galleries waiting for you to solve. Journey through the museum to find clues and treasures. Free with general admission.


• Cap off Halloween weekend with the Halloween Festival on October 30 from 11am to 4pm. The family festival includes a costume parade and trick-or-treating in NHM's galleries. Also free with general admission.

Spider Pavilion tickets are sold in half-hour intervals throughout the day at a rate of $3 for adults, $2 for students and seniors and $1 for children. Ticket packages including admission to the museum are available as well and cost $15 for adults, $11 for students, $6 to $10 for youth and are free for children ages 4 and under. Museum members receive free admission. From now until November 6, the Pavilion is open every day of the week from 10am to 5pm.
