Pencil This In: Beer, Wine, Murder, Music & 90s Mayhem
It's Wednesday, the sun is shining and the temps are rising. We've got the skinny on tonight's best events, beginning and ending with libations. L.A. Beer Week is in full swing, and Stone Brewing Company is representing at SmithHouse Tap & Grill this evening for some tap action. Prefer wine? Free tastings continue at gLAnce Wine Bar. Sidney Lumet's "Murder on the Orient Express" screens at the Aero tonight, but if you'd rather check out theatre or music, there's a pair of entertaining options. The Bayside High School Musical has just three nights left, and Edgar Winter graces the Grammy Museum. Get out, take advantage of the sprawl and please do report back!
BEER
As a tribute to L.A. Beer Week, Michael Smuck from Stone Brewing Company will tap the kegs himself at SmithHouse Tap & Grill from 7pm to 10pm. Today also marks the first of "Twenty Tastes in Twenty Days," a beer-centric special at SmithHouse honoring Oktoberfest. Tap lovers will receive a punch card which will track each beer ordered through the end of the month. Heavy drinkers who gulp down 20 beers or more during this timeframe will become inaugural members of the SmithHouse Mug Club.
FILM
Featuring an impressive cast, "Murder on the Orient Express" screens tonight at the Aero Theatre. The 1974 Agatha Christie adaptation, directed by Sidney Lumet, is brought to life by Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Albert Finney, Sean Connery and Richard Widmark. 7:30pm. Tickets are $11 for general admission, $9 for students, $7 for American Cinematheque members and seniors (65+) and available for purchase online.
MUSIC
Renowned multi-instrumentalist Edgar Winter takes the Clive Davis Theater stage at the Grammy Museum this evening. The museum's Executive Director Bob Santelli will interview Winter pre-show, and the performer will answer audience questions before launching into a selection of songs. 8pm. Doors open at 7:30pm. $20.
THEATRE*
Zack, Kelly, Screech, Lisa, Jessie, A.C. and Mr. Belding - the gang’s all here! Bayside High School Musical flashes back to the 80s and 90s with a musical parody of the beloved sitcom “Saved by the Bell.” The musical opened on August 10 and will take place double-feature-style every Wednesday through October at The Victory Theatre Center in Burbank until Jessie overdoes on caffeine pills, A.C. pulls a muscle or Zack’s hair goes flat. Tickets for 8pm shows cost $15; tickets for 10pm shows cost $10 and include two beers when booked online.
WINE TASTING
Although California Wine Month has wrapped, gLAnce Wine Bar at JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live will continue its Meet the Winemaker series every Wednesday through December 7. Guests will sip complimentary wine tastings plus enjoy a sampling of small seasonal bites prepped by the hotel's chef. Tonight's featured winery is Mounts Family Winery from Sonoma Valley. 5:30pm-7pm. Free.
