Westchester Man Granted $48 Million in Motrin Case After Suffering Blood Blisters & Skin Disorder
Blood blisters? A severe skin disorder? Both from taking Motrin? Yes, yes and yes. Christopher Trejo's horrifying experience with the pain reliever/fever reducer involved both ailments. A SoCal jury awarded the 22-year-old Westchester man with $48 million on Monday.
Trejo was 16-years-old when he took Motrin in October 2005 to cure aches and a fever. His skin became covered with lesions and mouth filled with blood blisters.
He filed a negligence suit against McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, claiming that the over-the-counter drug failed to provide adequate warnings about side effects. And he won, big time.
"I consider it a grand slam, for both the plaintiffs' bar and for consumers of over-the- counter products," said Trejo's attorney, Brian Witzer, reports Contra Costa Times. "It was a really great vindication for this young man." The verdict is the largest Witzer has won to date.
