Snowboarders and skiers rejoice. Mammoth Mountain received a light white dusting today, marking the season's first snowfall. While L.A. prepares for impending rain and cold temps, snow enthusiasts have their fingers, toes and eyes crossed for a 2011 that's even whiter than 2010.

Last year Mammoth enjoyed the snowiest November in 25 years, according to OC Beach Blog. Snowfall continued to break records through December, when snowfall during the month reached 209 inches, and in May, with 31 inches. The season wrapped with over 600 inches of snow on record.

Mammoth opened last year on November 8 with man-made snow and celebrated the first real snow on November 22. Enthusiasts hope for an early 2011 season and are polishing their rightful snow dances.

  • Mammoth Mountain also has one of the longest ski seasons in North America, which averages from November to June. Mammoth does occasionally open earlier, such as in 2005, when the resort opened in October, and did not close until theĀ 4th of July.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow LOL!! I'm sure skiers are already preparing to go for a ski one of these days. Plenty of skiers visits Mammoth Mountain because of it's terrains, for it has plenty of terrains to for every type of skier.
