Is the Fullerton PD Chief Faking His Need for Medical Leave?

In the wake of the death of Kelly Thomas, allegedly at the hands of officers with the Fullerton Police Department, Chief Michael Sellers went on paid medical leave, citing stress-induced high blood pressure. Now Sellers has been granted a 60-day extension of his medical leave, but Fullerton City Manager Joe Felz says they will bring in their own doctor to examine the Chief and make the appropriate recommendation, reports L.A. Now.

The law permits a law enforcement officer like Sellers up to 12 months' medical leave, however, the city is also within its rights to bring on their own physician to take a look at Sellers' medical records and provide Fullerton officials with a recommendation for Sellers' fitness for the job.

Numerous Fullerton City Council members have already demanded Sellers resign amidst the scandal that erupted following Thomas' death. Recently, two Fullerton PD officers have been charged for their alleged roles in Thomas' murder.

Clean house!!  Sorry to the good cops there (assuming there are some) but it's time to re-assign some officers (some out of Fullerton, other into it) and disrupt the culture of the division.  These can't be isolated incidents (you didn't mention but there's another Fullerton scandal where an officer has groping complaints from 7 women but was sent back out into the field).

I'm probably hoping for too much - police culture is police culture no matter what division.  How is Rampart doing these days?
