October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). To help celebrate "25 years of awareness, education and empowerment," per the NBCAM website, DermFx in Redondo Beach and Sunset Beach is offering free radiation tattoo removal throughout October.

Cancer patients are often marked with a small tattoo to ensure accurate radiation treatment each visit. Breast cancer patients are tattooed on their chests or breasts. "In my experience a lot of people wear those as a badge of honor and courage or as something very painful that they want to forget about," says Erin Alonso, Nurse Practitioner from Alma Lasers, during a CBS LA interview. "When it's the painful part, what we do is we step in and we remove them for them. They're quite easy to remove, much easier than a regular tattoo would be."

Alma Lasers is a global developer, manufacturer and provider of laser, light-based, radiofrequency and ultrasound devices for aesthetic and medical applications. Medical practitioners use their products for noninvasive aesthetic procedures like hair removal, acne treatment, skin rejuvenation, fractional ablative skin resurfacing, pigmented lesions, vascular lesions and leg vein treatments.
