How About Some Salmonella With Your Grape Tomatoes?
Andrew Williamson Fresh Produce announced yesterday that the company is voluntarily recalling organic grape tomatoes sold under the Limited EditionĀ® and Fresh & Easy labels due to possible Salmonella contamination. One clam shell of Limited Edition organic grape tomatoes tested positive for Salmonella in a random sample collected and tested by the USDA in Michigan. The recall notice is being issued out of "an abundance of caution" according to the FDA release.
The organic grape tomatoes were distributed to California along with 17 other states - Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah - and two Canadian Provinces - British Columbia and Ontario.
Consumers should check their 10.5 oz. plastic clam shell containers for UPC code 033383655925 and 7 oz. said containers for Barcode 20025465. The words “LIMITED EDITION” and “Product of Mexico” are printed on the labels of the 10.5 oz. containers. The 7 oz. clam shells are marketed under the “Fresh & Easy” brand. Products stamped with said codes should be discarded. Retailers are also encouraged to check their inventory, and Andrew Williamson Fresh Produce customer service representatives are contacting retailers to facilitate product removal.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the organic grape tomatoes.
“At Andrew Williamson Fresh Produce our highest priority is the safety and welfare of the consumer. We are committed to the highest standards of food safety and will continue to rigorously pursue the highest food safety levels possible,” said Fred Williamson, President and CEO.
