What Do Teens in Newport Beach Do for Fun? Black Tar Heroin!
Youth, they say, is wasted on the young, and in Newport Beach, it seems an alarming number of the young are wasted on heroin. Authorities there are cautioning locals that there has been in increase in arrests in conjunction with heroin use and sales, according to the OC Register.
"The Newport Beach Police Department has made 13 arrests for heroin sales, 19 arrests for heroin possession, and 18 prescription drug arrests over the last three months," says the Register. The NBPD say that teens and young people in their early 20s comprise the bulk of the arrestees, with some even as young as 17.
Authorities say that heroin is being shared with teens and young adults at parties held by and for local high schoolers.
The heroin being used locally is mostly black tar heroin, which is made in clandestine laboratories in Latin America. According to police, large-scale sales and distribution of heroin is controlled by Mexican drug cartels and Hispanic street gangs, which smuggle heroin into the U.S. from Mexico and funnel the proceeds back to Mexico.
Come on, kids. Smack is whack. Go check an e-book out of the library, or bury yourself in some sand for fun. Okay, just kidding about the sand thing; that's pretty dangerous, too.
