Pencil This In: 'Harlem River Blues,' Punk Rock & 90s Drama
September is almost a month to merely remember, so if you haven't gotten out much yet, why not start tonight? Justin Townes Earle takes The Music Box stage, while an entire mock cast of "Saved by the Bell" performs again at the Victory Theatre Center. Tonight marks the last night for free wine at gLAnce Wine Bar but the first for "East Village West" at Royal/T. If you're feeling academic, visit the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium for a lecture in Marine Protected Areas. Keep reading for the details.
MUSIC*
Justin Townes Earle takes The Music Box stage tonight along with Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit and Caitlin Rose. Earle’s recent album, Harlem River Blues, debuted at #47 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, was nominated by the Americana Music Association (AMA) for 2011 Album of the Year and was given four stars by Rolling Stone and MOJO. Rolling Stone says of Earle, “He has an ear for the telling line and the small detail that convinces, plus a killer way with a melody. All in all, this is as good a slice of Americana as you’ll hear all year.” Doors open at 8pm; show starts at 9pm. Tickets are $30.60 (including fees).
LECTURE
The recent designation of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in SoCal marks a massive accomplishment in preserving marine ecosystems and revitalizing fish populations in our waters. Join Heal the Bay tonight at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium to learn details of MPAs from staff scientists, including benefits, locations and public involvement opportunities. Seating is limited to 50 and available by RSVP only. Call the aquarium to RSVP at 310.393.6149, ext. 106. Free.
WINE TASTING

Tonight's featured and final winery is Collier Falls Winery of the Sonoma County. 5:30pm-7pm. Free.
THEATRE
Zack, Kelly, Screech, Lisa, Jessie, A.C. and Mr. Belding - the gang’s all here! Bayside High School Musical flashes back to the 80s and 90s with a musical parody of the beloved sitcom “Saved by the Bell.” The musical opened on August 10 and will take place double-feature-style every Wednesday through October at The Victory Theatre Center in Burbank until Jessie overdoes on caffeine pills, A.C. pulls a muscle or Zack’s hair goes flat. Tickets for 8pm shows cost $15; tickets for 10pm shows cost $10 and include two beers when booked online.
ART
As part of Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980, Royal/T presents "East Village West," a show celebrating "California pop culture as siphoned through the punk rock-fueled creativity of New York’s East Village art scene," per the event's press release. Select works from the personal archives of curators Ann Magnuson and Kenny Scharf will display in the "pop" art-inspired exhibition space. 10am-10pm. Free.
