'Mad Men's' Don Draper Invents Facebook Timeline
Hold it right there. Not so fast crediting Eric Leist with the invention of Facebook Timeline, a new interface hitting screens in the coming weeks. There's a new old technology wizard in town - Don Draper. The advertising mad man himself actually pitched the idea in the early 1960s of a nostalgic device that's not a spaceship, "it's a time machine. It goes backwards, forwards, takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It let's us travel the way a child travels - round and round and back home again to a place where we know we are loved."
Today's video lunch offers a sneak peak at Draper's own Timeline, flashing images of the young Dick Whitman, Betty, the kids and even the sly Peter Campbell. Draper says that "technology is a glittering lure. But there's the rare occasion when the public can be engaged on a level beyond Flash if they have a sentimental bond with the product." This deeper bond, according to Draper, is nostalgia. "It's delicate but potent." No one could have said it better, Don. As are the men and woman in the meeting room, we're speechless.
