A young man suspected of carrying a gun and threatening to use it on the California State University, Northridge campus has been identified as 22-year-old Gahren Moradian of Burbank.

Moradian, a CSUN philosophy student, surrendered to the police at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to a campus spokesperson.

The troubled student reportedly appeared distressed and behaving erratically in the vicinity of the campus' Oviatt Library Tuesday morning. Students who approached him to offer assistance say Moradian mumbled he had a gun and "planned to use it."

Reports of Moradian's perceived threats prompted a shutdown of the library and a manhunt in the building and area that lasted until dinnertime. Moradian or a weapon were not found. When he surrendered, Moradian was taken into police custody.

Moradian could face charges for making criminal threats.
