Police Search for Possible Gunman on CSUN Campus [UPDATED]
An investigation is underway at California State University, Northridge, following reports there was a man with a gun inside the campus library. "No weapon was actually seen, although witnesses said the man threatened to take people out, said CSUN spokesperson Shante Morgan," reports NBC Los Angeles.*
A campus alert posted at 1:02 p.m. on the CSUN website explains:
This is an emergency notification (Oviatt Library) message for the California State University, Northridge community. At 10:27 this morning University police received information of a white male 5'8 wearing a white t-shirt that says "human rights violation;" he indicated he had a gun. University police are currently conducting a thorough search of the Oviatt library. Campus is advised to be on the lookout for this individual. If seen, do not approach and contact Police at (818) 677-2111.The University remains open. The Oviatt Library remains closed. Students, faculty and staff who feel uncomfortable may leave campus with proper notification to their faculty/supervisor. Please monitor the CSUN website at www.csun.edu for updates and information.
UPDATE 4:00 p.m. CSUN has called off the manhunt, and no suspect was found. *NBC Los Angeles posted a correction to their previous story as cited, indicating: "An earlier version of this story erroneously reported that the man threatened to take people out. The specific wording of the man's threat has not been verified."
