Strap on those hiking boots and head to Angeles National Forest this Saturday, September 24. In honor of National Public Lands Day, the forest is offering visitors a "Fee Free" day by waiving the Adventure Pass for daytime activities.
Volunteers organize the annual event while working to improve the nation's forests, parks and other public areas. Forest Service officials, in conjunction with the National Forest Foundation and REI, are hosting a family-friendly half-day activity in Big Tujunga Canyon. Starting at 8am, visitors will do good and get their hands dirty with trail maintenance, picnic-area improvement and recreational dam removal. Currently, 86 spots are available, and registration can be done online.
Additionally, a dedication of the Kids Discovery Trail - constructed by 20 youngsters - is slated for 1:30pm at the L.A. County Fair in the America's Great Outdoors site. This event is only free for children under the age of 5. General admission tickets cost $17 for adults, $12 for children (6-12) and $14 for seniors (60+).
Get out and inhale that fresh, mountain air, L.A.
