Fight Hunger & Protect Healthy Eats on Hunger Action Day L.A.
Droves of people with food on their minds will descend on L.A. City Hall on Thursday, September 22, championing Hunger Action Day 2011. The event, which coincides with September's National Hunger Action Month, advocates for the healthy food policies that are currently being threatened by federal cuts and the preservation of SNAP, a food stamp program.
Supporters will gather at 3:30pm on the Spring Street steps between Temple and 1st Streets. With a drum ensemble pounding in the background, attendees will march about one block and position themselves between the two federal buildings. Speakers will take the "stage" to enlighten supporters on the issues at hand. The entire event should last roughly one hour.
Hunger Action Day is an event planned by Hunger Action L.A. (HALA), an organization working to "end hunger and promote healthy eating through advocacy, direct service, and organizing," per their website. HALA has spearheaded numerous food policy initiatives, including Veggie Voucher bonus programs, CalFresh outreach and food justice news and is also involved in Help Feed L.A.
Climb those steps, march those streets and do good on Thursday, L.A.
