Stressed Out Man Lets Off Steam By Firing Gun on Busy Freeway
A Santa Ana man worked out his home and work tensions in a very unusual and dangerous way Monday morning: He fired his gun from his work vehicle while on a freeway during rush hour.
25-year-old Richard Chairez, a guard with Dunbar Armored, was riding as a passenger on the 210 Freeway in Glendora, when he suddenly requested the driver go into the far right lane. Since the van was preparing to exit the freeway, the driver didn't object to the request.
Once in the far right lane, Chairez opened up the van door and fired off a shot into the embankment. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
The driver waited until the vehicle was at their ensuing scheduled stop to discreetly contact their supervisors. Authorities caught up with the pair in Arcadia, where Chairez was taken into custody. The case was then transferred to authorities in Glendora.
"The suspect was angry over domestic issues and upset with working conditions," explains Glendora Patch.
Chairez will be arraigned Wednesday.
