Fatal Ferrari Crash on PCH Leaves One Man Dead & Car Severed in Two

What should you not do while cruising the winding bluffs of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH)? Accelerate to double the legal speed limit. The limit set for PCH is 45mph. On Sunday morning a driver maneuvered his Ferrari while tearing along the highway at 90mph. His joy ride ended in tragedy.

The car slammed into a utility pole, split in half then fell 30 feet from the embankment to the beach. Both the driver - Vladimir Skvortsov - and the passenger - Basil Max Price, III - were ejected from the vehicle. Price, a 23-year-old male Glendora resident, died at the scene. Skvortsov, a 24-year-old male Upland resident, was taken to UCLA Medical Center and is still listed in critical condition.

The accident occurred around 1:30am about one quarter mile northwest of Sunset Boulevard. Though Skvortsov was driving under a suspended license and had been arrested thrice prior for DUI, police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. “I hope he lives — to pay the consequences for what he did to my son," said Max Price II, Price's father, to CBS2.

Price's family is shocked by their son's death.

“Police came to my house this morning and told me what happened, and I still don’t believe it,” said Price's mother. “He was loved by a lot of people and I loved him with all my heart. I wish I could have saved him.”

  • I could understand if it said "The driver, a 50-year-old Malibu resident ... ".

But a 24-year-old kid from Upland?  With a Ferrari?  WTF?  Russian Mafia???

  • Cars are not toys, and the culture that treats them like it is the cause for this sort of behavior.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
