Student in Trouble For Taking a Video in Girls' Locker Room

A middle-school student was disciplined for doing something silly with her smart phone: videotaping her friend in the girls' locker room, where a bunch of other girls were changing for PE.

Fearing that the girl's video would go viral — as the school's rumor-mill indicated — the school's administration responded swiftly and got the police involved, according to Murrieta Patch. In California, you're not allowed to record someone where they might have an expectation of privacy, like a bedroom or a locker room.

But the story had a mostly happy ending. It turns out the girl's phone didn't have even have the capability to forward videos. The girl is in trouble with the administration at Shivela Middle School, but when the police figured out that she didn't mean to invade the privacy of all the other girls in the locker room, they decided not to charge her.
