A Park Popped Up in That Parking Spot! Yes: It's Park[ing] Day L.A.
If you notice several parking spaces around town being used as gathering places for plants, art, furniture, and people, you aren't losing your mind: You're witnessing the annual Park[ing] Day L.A.
Community get-togethers, eco-chic, art-centric, work spaces, green havens, and other specially-designed spaces have been set up all over Los Angeles in parking spaces today, and you are urged to not just drive or bike or walk by, but rather stop, say hi, chat, and relax.
The goal of Park[ing] Day, which began in San Francisco in 2005, is to show urban-dwelling Americans that we could use a little more green space in the midst of our concrete jungles. The spaces transform into eclectic multi-purpose patches of land where visitors can find entertainment, information, relaxation, and community.
