Police in San Bernardino have arrested a teenager who retaliated against a Good Samaritan by shooting at the man's home, leaving one three-year-old dead and another infant and pregnant woman injured.

The suspect, a 19-year-old man whose name has not been released, according to L.A. Now, fired shots at a crowded front porch on Monday.

A man who lived inside the home said he intervened when he saw the suspect attacking a woman earlier that day. This allowed the attacked woman to escape, but the suspect came back and opened fire on the Good Samaritan's home.

Three-year-old Nylah Franco-Torres died at the scene. La-Donna Howie, 22, who is 5 months pregnant, was shot in the neck and her three-year-old Justine was shot in the head. Both are expected to survive.

Howie's uncle John Prendergast said he and other family members were coming back from making funeral arrangements for Franco-Torres, when they saw the suspect being chased by police. Video surveillance from a nearby store showed the suspect beating the woman and helped police identify the suspect.

They found the suspect's girlfriend, who reluctantly cooperated with investigators, Prendergast said.

I'm a little confused as to the series of events...this article is not very clearly written. There were two incidents or only one? Did they happen the same day? And what is the whole Good Samaritan thing about?

From my understanding of the events, assailant (let's call him boy19) was attacking/assaulting a girl, and a neighbor (the Good Samaritan) saw what was happening and went to stop boy19. During Good Samaritan's intervention, the girl was able to escape.

Later that day, boy19 sought out revenge (his girl got away) by shooting at the home of Good Samaritan.
