Tiger Tears at L.A. Zoo: A Sumatran Tiger Cub Has Died

Lulu, a female Sumatran tiger at the L.A. Zoo, gave birth to three male cubs on August 6. Zoo staff made the heartbreaking discovery on Monday that one of the cubs has died. Though a necropsy indicated that the cub sustained head trauma, veterinarians are unable to determine how the trauma occurred.

The L.A. Zoo is obviously saddened by this loss and will allow Lulu to raise her remaining two cubs. She previously raised a total of five cubs in two successful litters in 2005 and 2007.

Just yesterday we were adoring pictures of the Zoo's new baby animals, which included a photo of two of the three tiger cubs (pictured above).

You may continue to watch the young duo grow with Lulu online.

  • Perhaps the young tiger bonked his poor, tiny, little head on some sort of man-made, forced boundary. As opposed to living in a sub-mountain forest in Indonesia with his family or in a wildlife conservation free of poachers. No? okay, LA Zoo it is then!
