The bubbling La Brea Tar Pits will welcome the ninth installment of TarFest, a free indie art and music celebration, on Sunday, September 25. Shining on emerging talent, the spotlight features live music, live painting, art installations and environmental sculpture. Musical performances include Saint Motel, Everest, Obi Best, A House for Lions, Infantree and Ash Panda.

An all walks and ages event, TarFest offers a children's art making tent for crafty youngins and a biergarten for thirsty adults. Tired attendees can rest their barking dogs at the TarFest lounge, plus plenty of food trucks will be stationed throughout the park to cure the hungriest of festival goers. The event will take over the green space from noon to 6pm.

Additionally, TarFest's opening reception is slated for this Friday, September 16, at the Korean Cultural Center. LACMA's Curatorial Assistant Nancy Meyer selected 35 works crafted by 21 L.A.-based artists to showcase in the diverse exhibition. A mixture of mediums - drawing, painting, photography, video, mixed media, etching and collage - will be featured from 6pm to 9pm.
