Two Dogs Shot After Attacking Owner

In today's "sad for everyone involved" news, the Long Beach Press Telegram reports that two dogs were shot yesterday after police discovered them attacking their owner in a garage.

According to authorities, the Long Beach woman who owned the dogs was trying to put them into her garage at around 4:00 p.m. It's unclear when they turned on her, but police, who were already at her home for an investigation, found her being mauled on the ground.

The cops tried using less harmful weapons on the pooches, but when that didn't work, they fired a gun in their direction. The Press-Telegram reports that the dogs stopped attacking and ran in the opposite direction, but the officials felt that they still posed a threat, and fired at them. One, a pit bull, died at the scene, and the other, whose breed iis unknown, is being treated at a vet hospital.

The dogs' owner had bites on her torso and was being treated at a local hospital.

What's the chances the cops would already be at her house "on hand" for an investigation?

  • I wish the woman a speedy recovery, but the first thing that people need to understand is that 99.99% of the dogs that
attack and kill/hurt humans are dogs with weak nerves or extremely dominant dogs with
no training. Unfortunately, it seems that pitbulls are the ones that are the most notorious. People should realize that owning a dog is a big responsiblilty. It doesn't matter what breed (despite some being more docile than others), you can't simply get a dog, put it in a backyard, throw some food in a bowl and expect it to behave.

the fact that it was her torso and not arms or legs is a bit concerning and weird. Dogs instinctively try to subdue and restrain when they attack, arms are generally their first target. I still dont get how someone can have their dog turn on them violently...

If they are not socialized or treated correctly they can easily turn on their owner.
